Introduction by Saskia Draxler, Angel projects

The production’s starting point is a grafiti board in a public park in Berlin. Throughout years different people with different creative means left inscriptions. They form a dense texture in which one can read the words „LIEBE“, „LOVE“, „AMOUR“. The board was photographed and the image cut into 12 parts. The plan to paint the 12 parts proofed to be incompletable. A process of transformation, of copying, creating, fragmentating begun. Again many layers overlap. The paintings have been overworked many times. The demand of doing justice to the medium is - of course - more important than the demand of doing justice to the original. Day after day, cover for cover the medium gets more complex while the result is getting more simple. The meaning of the medium „painting“ at the same time vanishes and consolidates in this process, just like the readability of the grafiti. While more and more material is added to the canvas, its surface becomes lighter and more transparent. Sculptures are added as another possibility, found objects, to be included in the transformatin process. The different canvases, panels and objects, their backgrounds, surfaces, signs and scriptures are witnesses of the only grant artist experiment: the exploration of the medium.
