The 20th of March 2010, after 187 years of inactivity, the Eyjafjallajökull erupted and 600 people were evacuated from the villages surrounding the volcano. The 15th of April the volcanic ashes' cloud led to the closure of many Northern European airspaces and airports. Apparently, Eyjafjallajökull is about a trip to Japan. It calls for both attention and distraction.

I am not only speaking about two eyes and a mouth, it’s the entire surface that looks. See, that edge is staring at me now, this finger too]

Eyjafjallajökull is an exhibition on environmental conditioning, in the broad sense of term, that faces the impossibility of a monolithic representation and constructs a modifiable dimension through in-betweens, references in space and time and recurrence in subjects, structures, and in both physical and theoretical trajectories. Within the room a looking/looked-subject/object creates a movable space via repetition* of subjects, small errors, glitches and of the spaces arisen in between the images and the moving images.

* Repetition not intended as the recurrence of the same, but as the recurrence of pure difference.

“That is why beauty is not defined here […] by an inaccessible singularity: it is resumed here and there, it runs from difference to difference, arranged in the great syntagm of bodies.” Roland Barthes, Empire of Signs, 1982.
