"Up close, nothing personal is the title of a book in which Lee Morrison, following his own experiences, gives expression to the good work doormen provide at nightclubs, places whose architectural inventory is nurturing our work for years. The exhibition at Mélange is a tribute to the work of these men. We perceive them as living elements that are part of the architecture that gives acces and exit to the party. Questioning the dialectic of the book’s title, the doormen are both emotional and rational presences at a time and place on the passage between the real world as a whole, and the strange and fantastic world of entertainment." "Up close nothing personal est le titre d'un livre dans lequel Lee Morrison énonce, au regard de son expérience, les bonnes pratiques à l'attention des portiers de boites de nuits, des lieux dont l'inventaire architectural nourri notre travail depuis des années. L'exposition chez Mélange, à Cologne, est un hommage complaisant pour ces hommes qui encadrent l'entrée, que nous percevons ici comme des éléments vivants de l'architecture d'accès et de sortie de la fête. Reprenant la dialectique du titre du livre en question, les portiers sont à la fois des présences émotionnelles et des présences raisonnées, à l'instant et à l'endroit du passage entre le monde réel dans sa globalité, et le monde singulier et fantastique du divertissement." "Up close, nothing personal is de titel van het boek waarin Lee Morrison, voortgaand op zijn eigen ervaringen, zijn lof betuigt aan het goede werk van portieren die de wacht houden aan discotheken, plaatsen waarvan de architecturale inventaris al jaren ons werk voedt. De tentoonstelling in Mélange is een eerbetoon aan het werk dat deze mannen leveren. We stellen hen voor als levende elementen die deel uitmaken van de toegang en uitgang van het feestje. Voortbouwend op de dialectiek van de titel van dit boek beschouwen we de portieren zowel als emotionele als rationele aanwezigheid op een moment en plaats dat een transitie vormt tussen de echte wereld, en de vreemde, fantastische wereld van vermaak."
